The plastic waste recycling plant will be graded

Bukit Mertajam June 6 (Bernama) -- Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida said the government will assess and grade foreign waste factories to facilitate the authorities' monitoring. For example, she said that some factories import clean foreign garbage, which can be directly disposed of by machinery without cleaning, which can be classified as Class 1. "As for the foreign garbage that needs to be cleaned and disposed of, these factories are divided into two levels. She said that further research will be given to grading foreign waste factories, which may be divided into first, second and third levels, in order to facilitate the monitoring of foreign waste factories.

Zuraida said this at a press conference after visiting UDA Materia1s Sdn Bhd in Bukit Minjak today. Present at the event were Penang State Executive Councillor Pang Boon Poh, Bukit Tambun State Councillor Goh Chun Yick and factory owner Tan Yew Chuen. In addition, she added, there are currently only 19 non-eligible foreign waste factories that have re-applied for the application. She said that there are 114 imported foreign waste factories in the country, of which 54 are active, but only eight are eligible. She said that foreign garbage factories that do not meet the requirements can be improved and re-applied under the 18 new regulations for the authorities to assess. This is why I have conducted a series of inspections to the overseas refuse factories, and before conducting a comprehensive review of the approvals, I need to understand whether the factories are in compliance with the regulations, including understanding where the products are exported and what they are used for, etc., and collect data for future enhancement of the relevant industrial sectors. In addition, in response to the case of someone who imported foreign garbage at the Penang Jetty in November last year without obtaining an import permit, she found that it was an incorrect act by changing the import number (code) of solid waste to the general number in order to obtain approval. She said that the authorities would conduct training for Customs Department officers to identify the import number of solid waste. In addition, Zuleda said that the waste recycling industry will be divided into grades, and manufacturers who import clean waste and can directly produce raw materials will be classified as the first grade. She said that manufacturers who import clean waste do not have to go through the waste cleaning process, and imported clean waste such as plastic can be directly produced into plastic pellet raw materials for export.

Zuleda visited three waste recycling plants in Weizhong District today to learn more about their operations. Importing waste only from developed countries, she said at a press conference that the cost of importing clean clean waste is higher than that of ordinary waste, but the waste can be directly produced into granular raw materials for export without having to be cleaned. Waste is imported from advanced countries such as Japan, Australia, the United States and Europe.

"Therefore, under the new regulations and guidelines, we only approve the import of waste from advanced countries such as Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia." She said that the industry should import clean industrial waste (plastic) instead of dirty plastic waste that has already been used, and that the waste that is not used is illegally discarded in the recycling process, which has been complained about.
